Rodgers delivers latest Liverpool injury update ahead of WBA clash
Brendan Rodgers confirms Liverpool trio Daniel Sturridge, Lucas Leiva and Mamadou Sakho sidelined for West Brom trip
Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that Liverpool will be without Daniel Sturridge, Mamadou Sakho and Lucas Leiva for their clash against West Bromwich Albion on Saturday.
Sturridge and Sakho are out-of-action since early April after the striker suffered a hip injury and the France international injured his hamstring.
On the fitness status of England striker Sturridge, Rodgers told his pre-match media conference at Melwood training ground: “We’re unsure at this moment. He’s certainly not available for the weekend.”
Liverpool midfielder Lucas picked up a knock ahead of their 2-1 defeat by Aston Villa in the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley and the Brazilian won’t feature at The Hawthorns.
However, the Reds boss confirmed that £25m summer signing Adam Lallana is edging closer to a return to action.
“Lallana has come back into training in the last few days. We’ll see how he is for the weekend, but none of the others will be fit, I would have thought.”
The Northern Irishman added that England full-back Jon Flanagan is working on his fitness after a frustrating season sidelined with a knee injury.
Rodgers added: “Jon Flanagan is now training with the team. Obviously he’s a way off fitness, but we just need to monitor his rehabilitation and we’ll see how he is for the coming games.”
Liverpool are seven points behind fourth-placed Manchester City in the race to secure a place in next season’s Champions League.
