Simon Mignolet: Divock Origi can’t wait to join Liverpool from Lille

Simon Mignolet is looking forward to welcoming his Belgium team-mate Divock Origi to Liverpool in the summer

Simon Mignolet has revealed that his Belgium team-mate Divock Origi cannot wait to join his new club Liverpool this summer.

Liverpool agreed a deal with Lille to sign the forward last summer, with the 19-year-old spending the current campaign on loan to the Ligue 1 outfit.

And Mignolet says that the forward is looking forward to linking up with his new team-mates later this year.

Speaking to Liverpool’s website, Mignolet said: “I have spoken with him a fair few times about next season, pre-season and how he is going to settle in – not only at the club, but also in the city.

“He is looking forward to the pre-season tour and asked me what that’s about because he’s heard many things about that, and I told him no different.

“He’s looking forward to next season and I think he’ll be ready for the team when he comes in.”

The Liverpool goalkeeper also reassured his team-mate that he will be on hand to help him settle in to life on Merseyside following his move to the Anfield club.

“I’ll always be there if he needs me,” he added. “But he’s more than mature enough, he has played professional football since he was very young and he is an international footballer, so that will help.

“I’m sure he’s got more than enough experience. But if he needs a helping hand, I’ll always be ready to help him out.”

Origi has been in good form for Lille so far this season, scoring seven goals and making three assists in 26 Ligue 1 games this term.

Mignolet, who helped the Reds reach the FA Cup semi-finals in midweek, will be expecting to feature when Liverpool take on Newcastle United at Anfield on Monday night.
