Stats show Arsenal’s Mesut Ozil is world’s best playmaker with Eden Hazard
Mesut Ozil has been the world's best creative midfielder alongside Eden Hazard since 1 January
Mesut Ozil may have had his fair share of criticism since joining Arsenal from Real Madrid in a club-record deal in 2013, but the Germany playmaker has been in good form this season if these stats are anything to go by.
Ozil missed much of the first half of the current campaign due to a knee injury but has impressed in recent weeks since his return to action back in January.
In research put together by the CIES observatory, Ozil has been revealed as the joint best attacking midfielder in the world alongside Chelsea’s Eden Hazard.
CIES ranked players on ‘rigour’, ‘recovery’, ‘distribution’, ‘take on’, ‘chance creation’ and ‘shooting’ across Europe’s five top leagues from 1 January 2015.
Arsenal playmaker Santi Cazorla was also named in the top 15 in joint-11th place, while Manchester City duo Jesus Navas and David Silva were the other top performers from the Premier League.
Ozil has scored three goals and made five assists in 14 Premier League games for Arsenal this season.
