Thierry Henry: Why this man was clearly Arsenal’s man of the match
Thierry Henry is full of praise for Francis Coquelin after the midfielder helps Arsenal beat Burnley 1-0 at Turf Moor
Thierry Henry heaped praise on the “brilliant” Francis Coquelin after Arsenal’s 1-0 win over Burnley on Saturday.
The French midfielder, who was named man of the match, has made the Gunners’ holding role his own in recent weeks and impressed again as he helped Arsene Wenger’s men keep a clean sheet at Turf Moor.
Aaron Ramsey scored the only of the game when he drilled into the roof of the net from close range in the 12th minute.
And former Arsenal striker Henry was gushing with praise for Coquelin after the final whistle.
The Gunners legend told Sky Sports: “I thought he was brilliant today. He was our man of the match.
“He senses the danger and gives the ball straight away. He has awareness and not in a stupid way. He stays on his feet, and who’s always by his side? Santi Cazorla.
“Maybe because he went away [on loan] and he thought: ‘I don’t want to go on loan any more, I want to show everyone that I can play for Arsenal’.”
Coquelin has made 13 Premier League appearances for Arsenal so far this season.
Saturday’s win moved Arsenal to within four points of leaders Chelsea, who take on Queens Park Rangers at Loftus Road on Sunday.
The Gunners became the first team to win eight games in a row this season thanks to Saturday’s victory at Turf Moor.
