Vincent Kompany: Man United clash is just what Man City need
Vincent Kompany issues a Manchester City rallying cry ahead of Sunday's derby showdown with United
Vincent Kompany believes that the Manchester derby is coming at the perfect time for City after their recent stuttering form.
Manuel Pellegrini’s suffered a severe blow to their hopes of retaining the Premier League title on Monday night when they slumped to a surprise 2-1 loss to Crystal Palace.
City head into Sunday’s clash at Old Trafford in fourth place in the Premier League table and nine points behind leaders Chelsea.
United are in good form and are currently third in the Premier League table after having won eight of their last 10 top-flight games.
The Citizens, meanwhile, have won only four of their last 10 Premier League matches and have struggled to maintain a consistent title challenge.
However, City captain Kompany feels that the trip to Old Trafford to face their local rivals is coming at the perfect time for the Citizens.
“For me, my only concern is we get back to our best form,” City skipper Kompany is quoted as saying by the Daily Mirror.
“I’ve learnt from the past seasons as well that finishing a season strongly can have an impact on your next season as well.
“We have United on Sunday and a derby is a derby. It doesn’t matter what place you are in the league, it’s a derby. If anything, it’s a good moment to go into a derby.
“I guess the momentum is a little bit with our neighbours at the moment but it’s the perfect place for us to go and try to rectify what we’ve had on Monday.”
