Juan Mata demonstrated just why he is so popular amongst Chelsea fans after Manchester United’s 1-0 loss to the Blues at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

The Spanish playmaker came up against his former club for the first time at their home ground in the Premier League and was unable to prevent the Red Devils from slipping to a loss in west London.

Mata was given a warm reception by the Chelsea faithful as Eden Hazard’s goal handed the Blues victory and took them to within two wins of winning their first Premier League title since 2010.

And the 26-year-old stayed behind after the final whistle to hug every Chelsea player as they approached the tunnel, must to the delight of onlooking Blues fans.

Mata joined United from Chelsea back in January 2014 after being deemed surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge by new manager Jose Mourinho.

The midfielder has scored eight goals and made four assists in 28 Premier League games this season.
