Wenger delivers latest Arsenal injury update ahead of Chelsea test
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Mikel Arteta are ruled out of Arsenal's Premier League clash with Chelsea
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Mikel Arteta have been ruled out of Arsenal’s Premier League clash with Chelsea on Sunday by Arsene Wenger.
England international Oxlade-Chamberlain has not featured for the north London club since 9 March due to a hamstring injury and the 21-year-old is now suffering from an inflammation of his groin.
Oxlade-Chamberlain has been limited to 17 Premier League starts for the north London club this season and has struggled with groin and hamstring issues throughout the campaign.
And Wenger revealed that Oxlade-Chamberlain and fellow midfielder Mikel Arteta are not likely to be ready to face the Blues at Emirates Stadium on Sunday.
The Arsenal boss also confirmed that defender Per Mertesacker is receiving treatment on his ankle after picking up a problem against Reading last weekend and is also unlikely to be available.
The Frenchman told a news conference at Arsenal’s training ground on Thursday morning: “Mertesacker is still in the treatment room. He is 50-50 at the moment. He has not practised at all.”
Arsenal head into Sunday’s game 10 points behind Jose Mourinho’s leaders.
