Ander Herrera: Man United still eyeing second-place finish
Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera says the Red Devils are still targeting top-four finish
Ander Herrera says Manchester United are still targeting a second-place finish ahead of their clash against West Bromwich Albion at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils have lost their last two Premier League games following a 1-0 defeat by top-flight leaders Chelsea and a 3-0 loss to Everton at Goodison Park.
We want to finish second but now we have to be prudent
However, Louis van Gaal’s side are just two points behind Manchester City and Arsenal with four games remaining in the Premier League game.
Whilst Herrera underlined that a fourth-place finish is an absolute must, the United midfielder is still hoping to push Arsenal and City for the runners-up spot.
“We have had very good moments and others not so good,” Herrera told Sky Sports News.
“But I think everyone knew in the beginning of the season it was not going to be an easy season because at the club we have had a lot of changes, new players, new staff, so the first objective we had was to be in the top four.
“We want to finish second but now we have to be prudent. We have [games against] West Brom, Crystal Palace [coming up], of course we wish to be second but it’s not going to be easy.
“The most important thing is that now we are in the top four but we have to avoid the fourth place because we will have to play Champions League qualification.”
Herrera has scored five goals and has made four assists in 22 Premier League appearances for the 20-time English champions this term.
The Spain Under-21 international has racked up 1,509 minutes of top-flight action for Louis van Gaal’s side over the course of the season.
The United midfielder was named the club’s player of the month for April after the playmaker scored three goals in five games.
