Ander Herrera declared his desire to become a champion at Manchester United after scoring the Red Devils’ goal in their 1-1 draw with Arsenal on Sunday.

The Spaniard volleyed home from close range in the 30th minute at Old Trafford before Theo Walcott’s deflected goal earned the Gunners a point.

The draw leaves United on course to secure a top-four finish in the Premier League but dampens their chances of overhauling Arsenal to finish third.

Herrera has scored six goals and made four assists in the Premier League in his first season at Old Trafford.

And although the midfielder is satisfied with his first campaign at the club, he insists that he is desperate to help Louis van Gaal’s side win the league next season.

Speaking to BBC Sport after Sunday’s draw, Herrera said: “I am happy with my development. I have to keep improving. My first season at a big club and I have played lots of games and scored goals. I want to be as good as possible.

“I knew it wasn’t going to be easy. When you arrive at a massive club it is not easy but I am happy and looking forward to next season. I want to be a champion here.”

United take on Hull City in their final Premier League game of the season next weekend.
