Arsenal defender fires warning at Chelsea ahead of next season
Mathieu Debuchy is certain that Arsenal will challenge for the Premier League title next season
Mathieu Debuchy is convinced that Arsenal will challenge for the Premier League title next season.
The Gunners have been in fine form in recent weeks and continued their solid run with a 3-1 victory over Hull City at the KC Stadium on Monday night.
Arsene Wenger’s men can still win the FA Cup this season and will finish as runners-up to Chelsea in the Premier League if they win their remaining four games.
And the France international is certain that the north London club will be one of the main contenders for the Premier League title next season.
Speaking to Arsenal Player, Debuchy said: “I am convinced that we will challenge for the title [next season]. Every big club wants to win it, Arsenal is a big club and it is definitely a target for us all.”
Debuchy has endured a frustrating start to life at Arsenal following his transfer from Newcastle United last summer.
He has spent lengthy spells on the sidelines with shoulder and ankle problems, but insists now that he is focused on performing at the top level for Arsene Wenger’s men.
He continued: “It has been a difficult season for me. I had two injuries, involving two operations, one on my knee, one on my ankle.
“It is a shame because I felt very good with the team, I think I made a good start to the season, so to be off the pitch for almost six months was difficult to deal with.
“When you start a new season in a new club, you really want to prove what you are capable of. I really thought that the difficult time was behind me and that I could show my qualities. Unfortunately I picked up my shoulder injury only a few weeks later and that was difficult for me to deal with.”
