Arsenal must keep Man City target Jack Wilshere, says David Seaman

Arsenal legend David Seaman says Jack Wilshere is key to the north London side's chances of winning silverware

Arsenal need to keep Manchester City target Jack Wilshere to enhance their chances of winning silverware, according to David Seaman.

The England international has emerged as a surprise target for the defending Premier League champions amid reports the Citizens are willing to offer the midfielder a bumper £150,000-a-week contract.

The 23-year-old, who has been sidelined with an injury problem since late November, has three years remaining on his current contract, which is valued at a reported 90,000-a-week.

Arsenal legend Seaman emphasised that the north London side can’t afford to lose their best players to their Premier League rivals.

Seaman wrote on BreatheSport: “To win trophies you need to keep your best players!! Enough said!!”

Wilshere hasn’t featured for Arsene Wenger’s side since a 2-1 defeat by Manchester United at The Emirates in November.

The England midfielder was forced to undergo an operation on his ankle earlier this year to solve the long-standing problem.

Wilshere has scored one goal and has made one assist in 12 appearances in all competitions for the Gunners this season.
