Arsenal star Alexis Sanchez named PFA fans’ player of the season
Arsenal's Alexis Sanchez beats off competition from Eden Hazard to be named the PFA fans' player of the season
Alexis Sanchez has been named the PFA fans’ player of the season following his stunning debut campaign with Arsenal.
Sanchez beat off competition from Chelsea midfielder Eden Hazard, who finished second, and Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero, who finished third, to take the award.
The Arsenal midfielder has enjoyed an outstanding first season in English football, scoring 16 goals and providing eight assists for his team-mates in 35 appearances.
Sanchez helped Arsenal finish in third place in the Premier League to ensure Arsene Wenger’s side qualified directly for the Champions League group stage next season.
He also scored both goals in the FA Cup semi-final against Reading and he has the chance to end his first season in English football with silverware if Arsenal can beat Aston Villa at Wembley on Saturday evening and retain the FA Cup.

Sanchez has continued to score consistently throughout the season, netting braces in the victories over Sunderland, Burnley and Stoke as well as goals against Manchester City and Liverpool.
The Chilean was named the PFA fans’ player of the month in October after scoring three goals and making one assist – and his fine form for Arsenal also saw him included in the PFA Premier League team of the year.
The PFA fans’ player awards which are powered by 90min are designed to give a strong voice to the supporters who are the lifeblood of the game. The awards are endorsed by the players and supported by the clubs.
One lucky fan voter will be chosen to present Sanchez with the award in person at an Arsenal home game next season.
