Arsenal transfers: Wenger responds to Wilshere reports
Arsene Wenger insists that he has no intention of letting Jack Wilshere leave Arsenal this summer
Arsene Wenger has insisted that he has no intention of letting Jack Wilshere leave Arsenal this summer.
The England midfielder has endured an injury-hit campaign and has not featured for the north London club since suffering ankle ligament damage during the 2-1 defeat by Manchester United back in November.
Wilshere’s future has been a source of speculation in recent months, with Manchester City reported to be considering a £30m bid for the midfielder this summer.
However, Gunners boss Wenger says that he is not interested in selling the 23-year-old midfielder, insisting that Wilshere remains part of Arsenal’s long-term plans at Emirates Stadium.
“Jack is an Arsenal player. I believe the success of the club in the future years will depend on how well the young players educated here will do, and he is part of that,” Wenger told a news conference on Friday.
“It is difficult to get in this team, I don’t deny that. If you consider any individual case you can say you are sorry that he doesn’t play.”
Wilshere has made 22 appearances for club and country this season and has been forced to watch from the bench in Arsenal’s last two game.
The midfielder will be hoping to feature when Arsenal take on Hull City at the KC Stadium on Monday night as they look for a victory to take a step closer to Champions League qualification.
