Arsene Wenger admits concern about Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez

Arsene Wenger admits that Alexis Sanchez could miss the start of the season for Arsenal

Arsene Wenger has admitted he is concerned that Arsenal star Alexis Sanchez could miss the start of next season.

The Chile international is due to compete at the Copa America on home soil during the summer months.

The new Premier League season is set to start a week earlier than recent seasons on 8 August, while the Copa America is not due to finish until 4 July.

And Wenger concedes that he may be forced to give Sanchez an extended break should hosts Chile go far in the tournament.

Wenger told a news conference: “If they [Chile] go very far, he will miss the start of the season.”

Sanchez has been in sensational form for Arsenal since his £35m transfer to the north London club from Barcelona last summer.

The 26-year-old has scored 14 goals and made eight assists in 30 Premier League games for Wenger’s men so far this term.

He will be expecting to feature when Arsenal travel to face Hull City in the Premier League on Monday night.
