Jamie Carragher says Liverpool fans shouldn’t get the wrong impression of Raheem Sterling despite the Arsenal target reportedly asking to leave Anfield in the summer.

The 20-year-old forward’s future has been a source of constant speculation in recent months after Sterling was reported to have rejected a £100,000-a-week contract.

I know Raheem Sterling. I’ve played with him. He’s a great kid. I’m not just saying that now

Sterling, who has two years remaining on his current Liverpool contract, has scored seven goals and has made seven assists in 35 Premier League appearances this season.

Speaking to Sky Sports as news of Sterling’s desire to leave the Reds broke on Monday night, Carragher urged Sterling to get rid of his current representatives.

“Talking of leaks from the club, this started with the agent at the very start of the season. I know there are things getting fed to the press about Raheem Sterling trying to put pressure on Liverpool to do a deal with him or sell him, whatever way you want to look at it.

“I know Raheem Sterling. I’ve played with him. He’s a great kid. I’m not just saying that now. I saw him at the weekend and shook his hand and said hello to him. He’s not some flash young kid and I hope people at home don’t get the wrong impression of him.

“If there’s one thing he needs to change, it’s his agent. The thing I don’t like about it is Raheem’s still a kid. For a 20-year-old kid to be taking on Liverpool Football Club over a contract, it just winds me up and angers me to the pit of my stomach.”

The England international is reportedly being chased by Premier League duo Arsenal and Chelsea as well as La Liga outfit Real Madrid.
