Chelsea legend excited to see Man United signing Memphis Depay in action

Former Chelsea defender Mario Melchiot can't wait to see Memphis Depay play in the Premier League

Mario Melchiot says he is excited to see compatriot Memphis Depay play in the Premier League next season.

On Thursday morning, Manchester United announced that they have agreed a deal with Eredivisie champions PSV Eindhoven to sign the highly-rated Netherlands international.

Depay, who will need to complete a medical at United to complete his reported £25m switch to Old Trafford, was previously linked with Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool.

Although his former employers Chelsea missed out on the exciting 21-year-old, Melchiot is still looking forward to seeing Depay performing in the English top-flight.

Of course, news of Depay’s deal with United won’t have come as a surprise to Melchiot after the former Chelsea defender backed the winger to join the 13-time Premier League champions last month.

Melchiot, who played under United manager Louis van Gaal during his Netherlands career, admitted that he would love Depay to join Chelsea but accepted United were likely to sign the forward.

After he was asked who he’d like to see Chelsea sign, Melchiot wrote: “Memphis Depay but I think Manu got him!”
