Didier Drogba: Chelsea confident of title glory since March
Chelsea legend Didier Drogba says the Blues were confident of Premier League title glory since March
Didier Drogba says Chelsea have been quietly confident of wrapping up the Premier League title since March.
The Blues are 13 points clear of second-placed Manchester City ahead of their clash against Crystal Palace at Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon.
This year was important as well but we knew that the league was … almost there
Jose Mourinho’s side have been leading at the top of the Premier League table since early January, and the Blues are unbeaten in 14 top-flight games.
Chelsea legend Drogba looked back at the differences between their first title success under Mourinho in 2005 and the current campaign.
Drogba told Chelsea’s website: “I think 2004-05 was a bit different because they players were a bit more mature and they had a bit more experience.
“Now, this team is getting this experience by winning trophies. 2004-05 was the year where we had to start somewhere and playing against Liverpool was a big thing. To win it against them gave us the confidence to go and win the league.
“This year was important as well but we knew that the league was … almost there.”
The Ivory Coast international has played a big part in the west London side’s title campaign in recent weeks in the absence of Diego Costa and Loic Remy.
Drogba, who sealed a return to Chelsea from Galatasaray last summer, has scored four goals in 26 Premier League starts for the three-time English champions this season.
