Essien, Owen and more: Twitter reacts as Chelsea win Premier League title

Michael Essien and Michael Owen tweet their thoughts after Chelsea are crowned Premier League champions

Chelsea were crowned Premier League champions after a narrow 1-0 victory over Crystal Palace at Stamford Bridge.

PFA player of the year Eden Hazard broke the deadlock at the end of the first half to seal three points and the Premier League crown with three games remaining.

Here is a selection of the best Twitter reaction from the professionals, past and present, in chronological order to the west London side’s title triumph.

Spurs legend Gary Lineker (@GaryLineker) believes Chelsea fully deserve their Premier League success: “Congratulations to Chelsea, thoroughly worthy Premier League champions. Comfortably the best team this season.”

Former USA defender Alexi Lalas (@AlexiLalas) is quick to point out one of the perks for the new champions in the closing weeks of the season: “Chelsea win #BPL title. Bring on the ‘guard of honour.’”

Even the often outspoken Mark Bright (@Mark__Bright) is complimentary about the Blues: “Got to hand it to @ChelseaFC well done. @premierleague champions 2015”

Former Chelsea defender Mario Melchiot (@MarioMelchiot) is quick to point out the contribution of one man in particular: “#Mourinho came back and made @ChelseaFC win it again! Congrats champions. Keep the Blues flag high. #mmlove #CFC”

Liverpool legend Michael Owen (@themichaelowen) doesn’t feel like anyone else has come close to the new Premier League champions: “Congratulations Chelsea. Easily the best team in The Premier League this season.”

Chelsea fan Trevor Nelson (@DJTrevorNelson) keeps his comparison topical: “We were the best of pacman 1st half of the season and best of Mayweather the 2nd half.#cheseachampions”

Blues legend Michael Essien (‏@MichaelEssien) is thrilled for his old club after their emphatic title success: “True and worthy champions.Congratulations to @ChelseaFC,JM and his team for winning the @premierleague. Well done. #BlueIsTheColor”
