Gary Neville insists that he is confident Angel di Maria will improve for Manchester United next season.

The Argentina international has struggled to find consistent form for the Red Devils since his big-money switch to Old Trafford from Real Madrid last summer.

Di Maria was an unused substitute as Louis van Gaal’s side were held to a 1-1 draw by Arsenal at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.

His inconsistent form has seen Di Maria linked with a move away from United in recent weeks.

However, Neville is keen to see the playmaker stay with the Red Devils and prove his worth to Van Gaal’s side next season.

“I believe in Di Maria as a player,” Neville told Sky Sports.

“We’ve watched him a lot for Real Madrid and you could see his level of performance was outstanding.

“That’s not happened this season and you’re thinking Ashley Young has done better this season, Fellaini’s been better, Mata’s done better. Is Di Maria going to do better under Van Gaal?”

Di Maria has scored three goals and made 10 assists in 26 Premier League games for United since joining the club last summer.

Manchester United, who have secured a top-four finish during Van Gaal’s first season in charge at the club, travel to Hull City in their final Premier League game next weekend.
