Gary Neville is not expecting to see Radamel Falcao stay at Manchester United beyond the summer after a hugely disappointing season for the striker.

The Colombia international has only managed to score four goals and notch up four assists in 26 Premier League games for the Red Devils after joining the club on loan from Monaco last summer.

Falcao has struggled to find consistent form for United and has been limited to only 14 top-flight starts for Louis van Gaal’s side.

I don’t think it would be a surprise to anybody to see him leave

The striker appeared to wave goodbye to the Old Trafford faithful when he was brought off in the second half of United’s 1-1 draw with Arsenal on Sunday.

And former United defender Neville is fully expecting to see the forward leave the club at the end of the season.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Neville said: “There was disappointment. Then there was a wave and then a second wave.

“It was a goodbye wave. Usually you give a salute wave when you are acknowledging the crowd. There was definitely a goodbye to this wave as the hand was moved side to side.

“I don’t think it would be a surprise to anybody to see him leave. It hasn’t quite happened for this season for one reason or another.

“As a striker you rely on confidence. I don’t think he’s ever been full of confidence since he came to Manchester United,” he added.

“I think you have to say Louis van Gaal is tough to play for. He expects a lot and whether that has worked or not for Falcao, I’m not sure.”

Manchester United, who have secured a top-four finish during Van Gaal’s first season in charge at the club, travel to Hull City in their final Premier League game next weekend.
