Juan Mata: I’m in a bitter mood after Man United defeat
Juan Mata admits that Manchester United's defeat by West Brom on Saturday has been a bitter pill to swallow
Juan Mata admits that he has found Manchester United’s 1-0 defeat by West Bromwich Albion on Saturday difficult to swallow.
Mata played the full 90 minutes as Louis van Gaal’s men slumped to a surprise loss to the Baggies at Old Trafford to condemn them to their third straight defeat in the top flight.
The result, which followed defeats by Chelsea and Everton, left United in fourth place in the Premier League table and four points ahead of fifth-placed Liverpool heading into the final three games of the season.
And Mata admits that he is desperate to put things right when they take on Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park next weekend.
Mata wrote on his blog: “The weekend has not been neither easy nor happy for us.
“Obviously, when you lose you are in a bitter mood until the next game, so I hope the week goes by quickly and we can revert this bad streak of results.
“The 0-1 at Old Trafford is a tough score for us and we are forced to win as soon as possible: our rivals ahead keep adding points, and also the teams behind are getting closer.
“It’s the tendency of the last few weeks: we have more ball possession that our opponent and create chances but we aren’t able to take them.
“We must focus on being effective because we haven’t scored in the last few games and we can’t afford it any longer. On Saturday we tried until the end but their goalkeeper was brilliant.”
Mata, who joined United from Chelsea back in January 2014, has scored eight goals and made four assists in 30 Premier League games so far this season.
