Liverpool transfers: Steven Gerrard could attract top players, says ex-Red
Former Liverpool midfielder David Thompson explains why the Reds should have kept Steven Gerrard
Liverpool could have used Steven Gerrard to attract top players over the summer, according to the Reds captain’s former team-mate David Thompson.
Gerrard is set to join Major League Soccer outfit LA Galaxy at the end of the season after the 34-year-old failed to reach an agreement over a new contract with his boyhood club.
Liverpool were dealt an early blow in the summer transfer window on Thursday morning after Manchester United confirmed that they have reached an agreement with PSV Eindhoven over Reds target Memphis Depay.
Former Liverpool midfielder Thompson took to Twitter after news of the Red Devils’ Depay deal broke in a bid to explain how Brendan Rodgers should have utilised his skipper going forward.

Liverpool are five points fourth-placed United in the race to secure the final Champions League spot with three Premier League games remaining in the season.
The Reds have been linked with a move for Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Yohan Cabaye in recent weeks.
