Player ratings as Arsenal earn a 1-1 draw with Manchester United at Old Trafford

By Sid Selant

Manchester United

David De Gea Very comfortable afternoon before being subbed. Was maybe his last appearance at the Theatre of Dreams. 6/10

Phil Jones Centre-back had one or two lapses of concentration which nearly led to Arsenal scoring. 6

Marcos Rojo Good clearance in the second half as Ramsey threatened the goal. 6

Chris Smalling Captained the side in the absence of Rooney. Marshalled his defence well and led by example. 6

Antonio Valencia Not much defending to do. Tried to get involved in United’s attacks. 6

Juan Mata The hungriest of the attacking midfielders on the pitch. Got behind the Arsenal defence a few times. 7

Daley Blind Good game in the middle of the park. Kept Cazorla at bay. 6

Ashley Young (man of the match) Plenty of energy going forward and combined well with Fellani. His pace down the flank caused Arsenal immense problems. 8

Ander Herrera Great volleyed finish by the Spaniard at the back post from a Young cross on 31 minutes. 7

Marouane Fellani Made his presence felt, using his strength and aerial power which caused chaos in the Gunners defence. 7

Radamel Falcao Another ineffective performance by the Monaco loanee. The Colombian failed to have any impact at Old Trafford. 4

Victor Valdes Made his United debut and had no chance for the deflected goal. 5

Robin van Persie No impact on the game. 4

Tyler Blackett May be credited for Arsenal’s goal. 4

David Ospina Not at fault for the goal and didn’t have much to do otherwise. 6

Per Mertesacker Rarely tested by Falcao but given a tough afternoon by United’s attacking midfielders. 6

Laurent Koscielny Strong performance – good game. 6

Nacho Monreal Lacked quality going forward. 5

Hector Bellerin Had his hands full trying to control Young. Easily dazed by the revitalised Young for United’s opener. 4

Francis Coquelin The midfielder had a tough time trying to control Fellani. 4

Santi Cazorla Very quiet game and did not have much of an impact. 4

Aaron Ramsey Arsenal’s best player on the day and delivered a perfect pass for Walcott’s deflected goal. 6

Mezut Ozil Too many times has the German international gone missing in games. 4

Alexis Sanchez Seems to have run out of steam and is not influencing games as much. Had a chance which he blasted into Row Z, which summed up his afternoon. 4

Olivier Giroud Almost capitalised on a Jones error late on – apart from that a quiet game. 5

Theo Walcott Grabbed a precious equaliser via a deflection off Blackett. 6

Jack Wilshere N/A
