Man United need top players to catch Chelsea, says Jamie Redknapp

Former Liverpool midfielder Jamie Redknapp says Manchester United need to sign world-class players

Manchester United need to sign top players in the summer if the Red Devils want to catch Chelsea and Manchester City, according to Jamie Redknapp.

Louis van Gaal’s side currently trail Premier League leaders Chelsea by 15 points ahead of their clash against West Bromwich Albion at Old Trafford on Saturday.

The Red Devils have been linked with big-money moves for Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels, Paris-Saint Germain striker Edinson Cavani and Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba in recent months.

And former Liverpool midfielder Redknapp believes the 20-time English champions need to add world-class players to their squad in order to challenge Chelsea next season.

Redknapp: “Man City and Chelsea will be ahead of them again next season if they don’t get some top players in during the summer – because that’s what City and Chelsea will be planning to do.”

The Red Devils lost 1-0 to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge last month before a 3-0 defeat by Everton at Goodison Park last weekend.

United had won six Premier League games on the bounce before their setback against the west London side.

Van Gaal’s side take on West Brom at Old Trafford in Saturday’s late kick-off.
