Ed Woodward has tipped Manchester United to make further summer signings after the Red Devils snapped up Memphis Depay last week.

The Red Devils announced their first deal of the summer transfer window after Louis van Gaal snapped up the highly-rated Netherlands international in a reported £25m deal from PSV Eindhoven.

The 20-time English champions have been heavily linked with a move for Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels in recent months, whilst Gareth Bale is being linked with a return to Old Trafford.

United chief executive Woodward, who has been previously criticised for business dealings at the Red Devils, signalled that there would be more ins-and-outs in the upcoming transfer window.

“In regards to this summer’s transfer activity we have already started implementing our plans and last week announced that Memphis Depay, viewed as one of the most exciting young players in Europe, will be joining the first-team,” Woodward is quoted as saying in a club statement.

“We expect to be active again during the window, but it’s too early to give guidance on transfers or wages at this point.”

Van Gaal spent over £150m on signings last summer, including Dutch footballer of the year Daley Blind, Argentina international Marcos Rojo and left-back Luke Shaw.
