Man United transfers: Ilkay Gundogan set for summer move, confirm Dortmund
Borussia Dortmund chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke confirms Arsenal and Man United target Ilkay Gundogan will be sold
Arsenal and Manchester United have been handed a boost in the race to sign Ilkay Gundogan after Borussia Dortmund confirmed the midfielder is set for a summer move.
The Gunners are thought to be keen on luring the midfielder to The Emirates, although they face stiff competition from their bitter Premier League rivals United.
La Liga giants Real Madrid are also thought to be keen on the Germany international, who returned from a long-term injury last season after having missed the World Cup.
Dortmund chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke confirmed that the Bundesliga club would honour the player’s wishes and sell him in the summer transfer window amid Premier League interest.
“Gundogan will be leaving Borussia Dortmund this summer, that is a fact. I am very confident we will see various clubs coming in for him,” Watzke is quoted as saying by London Evening Standard.
“It has not been our intention to see him leaving. It was his ambition to move clubs (this summer). Therefore we agreed. We will sell him.”
Gundogan, who joined Dortmund from Nuremberg in 2011 and has won the Bundesliga and the German Cup, has made 26 appearances for Dortmund this season.
The Red Devils have already signed highly-rated PSV Eindhoven forward Memphis Depay in a reported £25m deal last monht.
