Man United transfers: Ilkay Gundogan will join Bayern, says German expert

Jan Aage Fjortoft tips Borussia Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundogan to join Bayern Munich this summer

Jan Aage Fjortoft is tipping Manchester United target Ilkay Gundogan to join Bayern Munich in the summer transfer window.

The Red Devils are thought to be keen on luring the midfielder to Old Trafford as Louis van Gaal looks to bolster his squad ahead of his second season in charge at the club.

German Cup finalists Dortmund confirmed that Gundogan is set to leave the club at the end of the season after opting against signing a new contract.

But former Nottingham Forest man Fjortoft expects the 24-year-old to join Pep Guardiola’s Bayern project despite interest from the Red Devils.

Last month, Jurgen Klopp announced that he will leave Dortmund after seven years in charge at the Bundesliga club, which has fuelled speculation surrounding the futures of the likes of Mats Hummels and Marco Reus.

Gundogan, who joined Dortmund from Nuremberg in 2011 and has won the Bundesliga and the German Cup, has made 26 appearances for Dortmund this season.
