Memphis Depay admits that he is a keen admirer of Cristiano Ronaldo’s technique – but insists that he will not try to copy the Portugal star at Manchester United.

The Netherlands winger is set to join the Red Devils next month after Louis van Gaal moved to bring the 21-year-old to Old Trafford from PSV Eindhoven ahead of the end of the season.

Depay is well-known for his free-kick taking ability and although he admits to studying Ronaldo’s technique, he insists that he wants to develop his own style.

Depay told De Telegraaf: “Let’s be honest, doesn’t everyone look at Ronaldo’s free-kicks? I’ve looked at a lot of his technique but I do it in my own way. I have my own style and try not to do the same.

“In my business it’s about winning. To win you have to score, if I can do that frequently, my job is done.”

Winger Depay is set to join up with his new club at some point next month.

Manchester United host Arsenal in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon looking for a victory to guarantee a top-four finish.

A win against the Gunners would take United above Arsenal in the table, but the north London side have a game in hand over Van Gaal’s men.
