Mesut Ozil salutes ‘outstanding’ Arsenal
Mesut Ozil was delighted by Arsenal's free-flowing attacking display against Hull City on Monday
Mesut Ozil described Arsenal’s performance as “outstanding” after helping the Gunners beat Hull City 3-1 in the Premier League on Monday night to keep up their recent fine form.
Alexis Sanchez opened the scoring at the KC Stadium with a deflected free-kick in the 28th minute, before Aaron Ramsey netted a second just five minutes later.
Sanchez then rounded goalkeeper Steve Harper to slot home and make it 3-0 on the stroke of half-time.
Stephen Quinn’s header gave Hull hope after the break, but the Gunners held on to move to within three points of second-placed Manchester City.
And Ozil believes that Arsenal’s free-flowing attacking football was too much for Hull to handle.
Ozil told Arsenal Player: “We played outstanding football, especially in the first half.
“We really deserved to be 3-0 up and as I mentioned, in the first half our performance was top class. Hull City didn’t have a chance.
“We disrupted their play really early on and that forced their mistakes. Alexis made the game easier for us with his goals. We had more space as a result and they had to become more open.
“We know that one of our strengths is on the break because we have some really fast attacking players and I want to praise the team again for that.
“In the second half, we wanted to hold the result and conceded a goal. But ultimately we’re really happy with the result.
“We had many opportunities and maybe we should have won by more goals but the main thing is the three points and now we’ll turn our focus to the next game.”
Arsenal, who face Aston Villa in the FA Cup final later this month, take on Swansea City in their next Premier League game on Monday night.
The Gunners are currently third in the Premier League table but will finish second if they win their remaining four games.
