Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has warned Manchester United that Arsenal will head to Old Trafford full of confidence on Sunday following their win against the Red Devils earlier this season.

The north London side sealed a 2-1 victory over Louis van Gaal’s men in the FA Cup quarter-finals back in March thanks to goals from Nacho Monreal and Danny Welbeck.

Arsenal suffered a blow to their hopes of finishing in second place in the Premier League this season after slumping to a surprise 1-0 loss to Swansea City at Emirates Stadium on Monday night.

However, midfielder Oxlade-Chamberlain believes that Arsenal’s positive result against the Red Devils earlier this season should be a source of confidence for the north London side.

Oxlade-Chamberlain told Arsenal Player: “You can definitely take confidence from any win at Old Trafford. It’s a hard place to go and win, especially against a good Manchester United side.

“It will be a tough game but we can take positives from our last trip there in the FA Cup and the win that we managed to come away with.

“That was in a high-pressured environment, as we had to win that to get through to the next round of the cup. To do it at Old Trafford is a big achievement.

“We go into every game trying to win and it hadn’t gone that way for us [in the past], but in the two Manchester fixtures this season we’ve done well and come away with two wins.

“It’s other people that will analyse it and say that we’ve stepped over a [psychological] hurdle. We just go into it and focus, as we do with every game, on coming away with the win.”

The England midfielder is currently sidelined with a groin injury and is not expected to be fit for Sunday’s clash with the Red Devils.

Oxlade-Chamberlain has scored two goals and made two assists in seven Premier League games so far this season.
