Paul Merson: Why Tottenham will hold Man City on Sunday
Paul Merson believes that Tottenham and Manchester City are likely to play out a draw on Sunday afternoon
Paul Merson believes that Tottenham Hotspur are capable of holding Manchester City to a draw at White Hart Lane on Sunday afternoon.
Spurs host the defending Premier League champions at White Hart Lane this weekend as they look to move up the table in the closing stages of the season.
Mauricio Pochettino’s men are currently sixth in the Premier League table but are level on points with fifth-placed Liverpool heading into the final four games of the campaign.
The north London side are aiming to qualify for next season’s Europa League, with a top-four finish seemingly out of reach for another season.
And former Arsenal man Merson is predicting a 2-2 draw between the two sides at White Hart Lane this weekend.
Merson told Sky Sports: “Both sides will go out and have a go for this one, making for an entertaining game.
“I think the season has cost Manuel Pellegrini his job. If you’re Manchester City, not winning the league, not winning any silverware with a team like that, you’re in trouble.
“Mauricio Pochettino, on the other hand, has done OK at Spurs so far. He fell across the team slightly, but has brought Kane in regularly, and introduced Ryan Mason into midfield.
“But they need a few players, a few more of his own players to make them into the team he wants.”
Spurs have been in patchy form of late, with the Lilywhites having only won four of their last 10 Premier League games and suffering three defeats.
