Phil Neville explains how to pronounce Memphis Depay

Former Manchester United defender Phil Neville dishes out some pronunciation advice on Twitter

Phil Neville has helped to clear up any uncertainty over the pronunciation of Memphis Depay.

On Thursday afternoon, the Red Devils confirmed that they had reached an agreement with PSV Eindhoven to sign the 21-year-old, who is reported to be costing United £25m.

The former United defender will be tasted with getting to grips with the Netherlands international’s name during his punditry work for BBC Sport next season.

And the retired Everton star Neville took to Twitter to clarify how to pronounce the United signing’s name after some confusion on the popular social media site.

The PSV star had been linked with a move to Arsenal and Liverpool in recent weeks, whilst Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain were thought to be chasing the Dutch star’s signature.

Depay scored 22 goals in 28 Eredivise appearances last season as the Dutch forward helped fire PSV to the Dutch top-flight crown last month.

The United signing played under current United boss Louis van Gaal at last summer’s World Cup in Brazil as the Dutch finished in third place in the tournament.
