Didier Drogba has issued a message of support for Emmanuel Adebayor after the Tottenham Hotspur striker lifted the lid on his family troubles earlier this week.

The former Togo international spoke about the personal issues that have hampered his season and career after Adebayor was granted personal leave by the north London side last December.

In a lengthy statement on his Facebook page on Tuesday, the former Arsenal and Manchester City man Adebayor unveiled the ongoing friction in his family as the striker attempted to clarify his side of the story.

After Adebayor spoke of his desire for ‘other African families to learn’ from his experience, Chelsea legend Drogba backed the controversial Tottenham striker in his own message on photo-sharing site Instagram.

Drogba posted a photo of the pair and wrote: “Talking to you my brother @e_adebayor made things clear to me!!!

“God is with you, stay strong and I hope all will one day go back to what family should be about…LOVE !!!!”

Drogba was presented with a Barclays Spirit of the Game award last month in recognition of the striker’s charity work with the Didier Drogba Foundation in Africa.
