Chris Smalling has promised Manchester United fans that the Red Devils will return much-improved next season.

Louis van Gaal’s men finished their home campaign with 1-1 draw with bitter rivals Arsenal at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.

The Red Devils are already guaranteed a top-four finish after Liverpool lost 3-1 to Crystal Palace on Steven Gerrard’s final appearance on Saturday.

United centre-half Smalling, who has been a regular in Van Gaal’s starting line-up this season, took to Instagram to post an end-of-season message.

Smalling posted the above photo and wrote on Instagram: “Disappointed we didn’t get the win yesterday that you deserved. Thanks for your incredible support no matter what the result you have always been behind us. We’ll be back stronger next season!”

Smalling has scored four goals in 24 Premier League appearances for the Red Devils this season.

Spain international Ander Herrera broke the deadlock against the north London side before Tyler Blackett deflected the ball past David De Gea and into the United net.

Van Gaal’s finish their Premier League season with a trip to relegation-threatened Hull City.
