Liverpool centre-half Dejan Lovren heaps praise on Reds captain Steven Gerrard
Dejan Lovren heaped praise on Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard after the midfielder scored a late winner against Queens Park Rangers at Anfield.
Gerrard missed a second-half penalty with the score-line at 1-1 before the 34-year-old midfielder headed past QPR goalkeeper Rob Green with three minutes remaining at Anfield.
The Reds captain, who has scored seven goals in 26 Premier League appearances this season, is set to join Major League Soccer outfit LA Galaxy at the end of the season.
Liverpool centre-half Lovren, who moved to the Reds from Southampton in a £25m deal last summer, took to Instagram after their dramatic 2-1 victory over the west London side at Anfield.
Lovren posted the above photo and wrote: “So proud of our captain @stevengerrard today. Happy for his goal and the team victory.
“He deserves all the praises and is a living legend and idol as a person and football player for everyone to look up to. It is an honour to be a part of a team he leads! #YNWA”
Gerrard has 183 goals in 706 appearances in all competitions since the midfielder made his Liverpool debut in 1998.
The former England captain has won the Champions League, the Uefa Cup, two FA Cups and three League Cups during his Anfield career.
The Liverpool midfielder missed the chance to win an elusive Premier League crown after the Reds finished in second place last year.
