Didier Drogba has paid tribute to his “little brother” Daniel Sturridge after the Liverpool striker underwent an operation on his hip earlier this week.

The England international has endured a frustrating season for club and country after having suffered a string of hip and thigh injuries which have restricted his playing time.

Sturridge played with Drogba during a two-and-a-half season stay at west London side Chelsea, and the pair were famously part of Roberto Di Matteo’s Champions League-winning squad.

The Blues legend was quick to defend Sturridge as he reminded the striker’s sceptics of their European success in a touching message that he uploaded on Instagram on Friday night.

Drogba reposted Sturridge’s earlier snap and wrote the following caption: “We miss you in action my lil bro @danielsturridge
Glad the surgery went well and can’t wait to see you scoring and celebrating again!!!! Keep your head up, God is in control. #ChampionsLeagueWinner”

The Liverpool forward has scored four goals and made one assist in 12 Premier League games for the Merseyside outfit this season.

The former Chelsea man’s last appearance for Liverpool came in the 1-0 FA Cup win over Blackburn Rovers at the start of April.
