Steven Gerrard took to social media on Saturday afternoon to send his best wishes to David Beckham as the Manchester United legend celebrated his 40th birthday.

The former England captain turned 40 and celebrated by opening an Instagram account and posting a series of photos from his birthday.

Gerrard scored Liverpool’s winner as the Reds beat Queens Park Rangers 2-1 at Anfield on Saturday to return to winning ways in the Premier League.

And the Liverpool skipper was quick to send his best wishes to his former England team-mate on his special day.

Gerrard posted the picture above on his Instagram account and wrote: “I would like to wish my ex England colleague and friend @davidbeckham a very happy 40th birthday and also welcome him to Instagram! Have a great day mate.”

Saturday’s victory left Liverpool in fifth place in the Premier League table.

The Reds were four points behind Manchester United ahead of the Red Devils’ clash with West Bromwich Albion on Saturday evening.

Liverpool are due to take on Chelsea, Crystal Palace and Stoke in their remaining Premier League games of the season.
