Manchester United striker Robin van Persie takes to Twitter to welcome new signing Memphis Depay

Robin van Persie has taken to Twitter to welcome his new Manchester United team-mate Memphis Depay to Old Trafford.

The Red Devils announced that they had reached an agreement with PSV Eindhoven over the sale of Depay on Thursday afternoon, with the 20-time English champions reportedly set to pay £25m for the winger’s services.

The Netherlands international, whose move is pending the successful completion of his medical at Carrington, helped PSV end Ajax’s hold on the Eredivisie crown this season.

Van Persie, who played alongside Depay for the Netherlands at last summer’s World Cup, was the first United player to welcome the 21-year-old to Old Trafford via photo-sharing app Instagram.

Depay was also being tracked by Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain, with Liverpool and the French club thought to be leading the race to sign the Dutch star last month.

Depay scored 22 goals in 28 Eredivise appearances last season as the Dutch forward helped fire PSV to the Dutch top-flight crown last month.
