Carragher and more: Twitter reacts to Liverpool’s Firmino signing
Jamie Carragher and Michael Owen lead the Twitter reaction after Liverpool sign Roberto Firmino from Hoffenheim
Liverpool have completed the signing of Brazil forward Roberto Firmino from Hoffenheim.
The 23-year-old South American has agreed a long-term contract with the Merseyside outfit after the Reds struck a reported £29m deal with his Bundesliga employers.
Firmino’s move is subject to the successful completion of a medical as the Brazilian becomes Liverpool’s fourth signing of the summer following James Milner, Danny Ings and Adam Bogdan.
Here is the best of the Twitter reaction from the former Liverpool stars and retired footballers to the breaking news that Reds have landed a big-name signing.
Former Liverpool centre-half Carragher (@Carra23) hints at an imminent deal before the Reds officially announce the signing but the retired defender is in the dark over Firmino’s ability: “Come on hipsters what’s Firmino like?!!”
Similarly, Carragher’s former team-mate David Thompson (@77thomo) doesn’t know too much about the new man but hopes that he can replicate Philippe Coutinho’s impact at Anfield: “Firmino is not a player I’m aware of but neither was coutinho so fingers crossed he’s decent and wants to play for this great club!”
BT Sport pundit and former Liverpool striker Michael Owen (themichaelowen) reckons Firmino is a big coup for the 18-time English champions: “Transfer market hotting up. Firmino to Liverpool is a biggy. With Sturridge and Origi in place, you’d have to think the likes of Borini, Lambert and Balotelli will be surplus to requirements.”
Champions League winner Neil Mellor (NeilMellor33) is delighted with the Brazilian arrival: “Sounds an exciting signing Firmino for Liverpool to add to the good business done already this summer”
Finally, Carragher and Thompson will be glad to see Bundesliga expert Jan Aage Fjortoft (@JanAageFjortoft) give Firimino a ringing endorsement: “Congratulations @LFC with a great signing. Roberto Firmino one of the best available this window.”
