Chelsea star backs Eden Hazard to win Ballon d’Or
Thibaut Courtois says that Eden Hazard is likely to be a contender for the Ballon d'Or in the coming seasons
Thibaut Courtois believes that Eden Hazard has the potential to win the Ballon d’Or in the coming seasons as he continues to improve at Chelsea.
The Belgian playmaker enjoyed a stunning campaign for the west London club as his fine form helped Jose Mourinho’s men win a League Cup and Premier League double.
Hazard scored 14 goals and made nine assists in the Premier League as he helped the Blues win their fourth top-flight title last term.
The 24-year-old won the PFA player of the year award following his sparkling form for the west London side.
And Courtois is backing his fellow Belgium team-mate to continue to improve his game and challenge the likes of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo for football’s most prestigious individual prize.
Courtois told Goal: “He’s a potential Golden Ball winner. We have to see what Messi and Ronaldo do, two players who are so good that sometimes I don’t think they give a chance to other players.
“They score so many goals that in this moment it is always one of them who will win the Ballon d’Or. But Eden has the capacity of winning it.
“Last season he was decisive for us. Maybe he can be sometimes a little bit more, but we followed his lead to the title.”
Hazard scored twice in Chelsea’s run to the League Cup final as Mourinho’s men secured their first piece of silverware since the coach’s return to the club in 2013.
