Hector Bellerin: Chelsea star inspired me to join Arsenal
Hector Bellerin says that Cesc Fabregas was an inspiration for him before his move to Arsenal
Hector Bellerin says that he was inspired to join Arsenal by Cesc Fabregas following his move from Barcelona to the north London club.
Bellerin arrived at Emirates Stadium in 2011 when he was just 16 years old, with Fabregas having made the same move as a teenager back in 2003.
And the Spanish defender, who enjoyed a breakthrough season with the Gunners this term, says that seeing Fabregas succeed in north London helped to convince him that a move to The Emirates was a good idea.
“Cesc was a big inspiration,” Bellerin told ArsenalFan TV.
“To see someone who made the same move and succeed, for me it was very important to see that happen.
“It was an important move for me; moving away from my family and friends and my city.
“But to see someone has succeeded as I said was really important and he showed that if you work hard, if you want it enough, you will always have a chance.”
Fabregas left Arsenal to rejoin boyhood club Barcelona back in 2011 before signing for Chelsea last summer in a £27m deal.
The 20-year-old Bellerin scored two goals and made one assist in 20 Premier League games for Arsene Wenger’s side last season as he stepped in at right-back for the injured Mathieu Debuchy.
He also featured four times in the Champions League for the Gunners before they were knocked out by Monaco in the last 16.
