Juan Mata sends message to David De Gea about Man United future

Juan Mata underlines his desire to see David De Gea stay at Manchester United beyond the summer

Juan Mata has underlined his desire to see David De Gea ignore interest from Real Madrid and commit his future to Manchester United this summer.

The Spanish goalkeeper’s future continues to be a source of relentless speculation as he enters into the final year of his contract at Old Trafford.

Real Madrid are thought to be readying a big-money bid to lure the goalkeeper back to his native homeland ahead of next season.

However, despite insisting that he simply wants De Gea “to be happy”, Mata has told the goalkeeper that he would love for him to stay at United beyond the summer.

Mata told Marca: “Lots of people ask me about De Gea. He’s a friend and I want him to be happy.

“He’s currently one of the best goalkeepers in the world. From a selfish point of view, I would want to have him in my team.”

The Spain goalkeeper made 37 Premier League appearances during Louis van Gaal’s first season in charge at Old Trafford.

De Gea moved to the Red Devils from Atletico Madrid in 2011 and helped United wrap up a fourth-placed finish in the league last term as they secured Champions League qualification.
