Man City transfers: Patrick Vieira coy on Raheem Sterling link

Patrick Vieira refuses to be drawn on the speculation linking Manchester City with a move for Raheem Sterling

Patrick Vieira remained coy when quizzed about the speculation linking Manchester City with a summer transfer swoop for Raheem Sterling.

The Liverpool winger has been heavily linked with move away from Anfield in recent weeks following his apparent refusal to sign a new deal with the Merseyside club worth a reported £100,000 a week.

City are thought to have had a bid in the region of £40m rejected for the England international in recent weeks as Manuel Pellegrini looks to bolster his squad ahead of next season.

Vieira refused to confirm or deny whether City are interested in signing Sterling but admitted that he is a keen admirer of the 20-year-old following his sparkling displays for Liverpool in recent seasons.

Vieira told ESPN FC: “I think every big name will be linked with City because City is a big club in Europe. Players will want to join the club and have success.

“I think if you go down and ask 10 people what they think about him, I think nine would give you a positive answer.

“I would be part of the nine people because he’s shown how good he is, how well he’s been doing at Liverpool. If he is in the market, not just City would be interested in him.”

Speaking exclusively to The Sport Review, former Liverpool man Rob Jones warned Sterling that a move to Manchester City could be a mistake in the development of his career.
