Man United boss Louis van Gaal wants perfect preparation

Louis van Gaal underlines the importance of Manchester United taking part in a proper pre-season schedule

Louis van Gaal has stressed the importance of Manchester United being fully prepared for the new Premier League season as the Dutchman gears up for his second campaign in charge at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils slumped to a surprise 2-1 defeat by Swansea City on the first day of last season and Van Gaal feels that loss was in part down to poor preparation.

After steering United to a top-four finish in his first campaign in charge of the Red Devils, the Dutchman has now been charged with transforming his side into genuine Premier League title contenders.

And Van Gaal has underlined the importance of his side taking part in proper pre-season preparations ahead of the 2015-16 campaign.

Manager Van Gaal told MUTV: “I asked the board for us not to play the week before our first Premier League match.

“Last year we played against Valencia a few days before we had to play Swansea City and that was too much.

“Therefore they have permitted that we don’t play one week before the first game as that [first] match is very important. We want to win it this time and I hope we can start very well.”

Manchester United kick off their Premier League campaign with a home clash against Tottenham Hotspur on 8 August, before taking on Aston Villa at Villa Park a week later.
