Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville defends Liverpool flop Dejan Lovren
Gary Neville has leapt to the defence of Liverpool flop Dejan Lovren after a disappointing first season at Anfield.
The Croatia international struggled to hold down a regular starting spot in Brendan Rodgers’s side after a mixed start to the 2014/15 campaign after his £25m move from Southampton last summer.
Lovren, who was omitted from Croatia’s recent squad, did enjoy a flurry of starts in the Premier League towards the end of the season after Mamadou Sakho was kept sidelined with injury.
Former Manchester United defender Neville believes Lovren has much more potential than he has shown over the course of his first season at the 18-time English champions.
I still like Lovren. He's a lot better than he's shown. Needs work he was getting at Southampton. https://t.co/1MRBp9B4Oe

The 25-year-old moved to Liverpool in a £25m deal from Southampton last summer after an impressive season at St Mary’s.
Lovren made 26 Premier League appearances for the Reds last term despite his patchy form for the five-time European champions.
Liverpool are on the brink of signing another Southampton defender, Nathaniel Clyne, if recent reports in the British media are correct.
