Man United transfers: Bastian Schweinsteiger warned off Red Devils move
Bayern Munich legend Franz Beckenbauer warns Bastian Schweinsteiger against Man United move
Franz Beckenbauer has urged Bayern Munich midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger not to join Manchester United.
The Germany international has been heavily linked with a move to the 13-time English champions in recent weeks with one year remaining on his current deal with the Bundesliga holders.
If I was in Schweini’s place, I would stay one or two years more at Bayern
The 30-year-old World Cup winner previously played under current United manager Louis van Gaal during the Dutchman’s two-year reign at the Allianz Arena.
But former Bayern defender Beckenbauer reckons the talismanic midfielder could find adapting to the Premier League a struggle in the twilight of his decorated career.
“Adapting to a different European league is difficult at his age,” Beckenbauer is quoted as saying by Daily Mail.
“He has played with great force and put a lot of pressure on his body for many years. That saps energy. He could end his career in the USA instead.
“If I was in Schweini’s place, I would stay one or two years more at Bayern. Until then, he can still perform at the highest level.”
Schweinsteiger has won eight Bundesliga titles, eight German Cups and the Champions League during a 14-year spell at Bayern.
The Germany midfielder has scored 67 goals in 500 appearances in all competitions for the Bundesliga champions.
Van Gaal landed his first summer signing in April after United concluded a £25m deal for PSV Eindhoven forward Memphis Depay.
