Man United transfers: Dortmund deliver Ilkay Gundogan update
Borussia Dortmund are hoping Man United target Ilkay Gundogan may rethink his future, says club's general director
Manchester United have been dealt a blow in their bid to sign Ilkay Gundogan after Borussia Dortmund’s general manager suggested that the midfielder may rethink his future.
The Germany international has been widely tipped to join Louis van Gaal’s project at Old Trafford this summer after Dortmund confirmed that the playmaker wouldn’t be signing a new deal.
However, the Red Devils are yet to get any deal over the line, whilst their Premier League rivals Arsenal and Chelsea have also been linked with a move.
But in a surprise admission, Dortmund general manager Hans-Joachim Watzke suggested that the 24-year-old could have a change of heart and pen a new deal with the Bundesliga side.
“Maybe there is still a chance that he has a rethink,” Watzke is quoted as saying by talkSPORT. “We are in talks and Ilkay is a decent lad.”
Gundogan, who joined Dortmund from Nuremberg in 2011 and has won the Bundesliga and the German Cup, has made 26 appearances for Dortmund this season.
The Red Devils have already signed highly-rated PSV Eindhoven forward Memphis Depay in a reported £25m deal last month.
