Man United transfers: Schneiderlin move backed by Ferdinand
Rio Ferdinand says Morgan Schneiderlin would be a top signing for Manchester United this summer
Rio Ferdinand has backed Manchester United’s move for Southampton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin as Louis van Gaal looks to bolster his squad ahead of next season.
The Red Devils have been heavily linked with a bid for the France international in recent days as the midfielder’s future at Southampton continues to be a source of speculation.
And former United defender Ferdinand feels that Schneiderlin would be a solid addition to the Red Devils squad as Van Gaal looks to transform his side into genuine Premier League title contenders next season.
Ferdinand is quoted as saying by Goal: “He’s a player who’s going to add something to Manchester United.
“A bit of steel, can pass the ball, can play the ball through the lines of midfield and get the ball from back to front.
“He’s a good player and a good addition to the squad, especially if someone like [Michael] Carrick, who’s so influential for Man United, gets injured. This guy can step in and help buffer that. He’s a very good player.”
The Southampton star, who has also been touted as a possible target for Arsenal in recent weeks, has scored 15 goals in 260 games in all competitions for the south-coast club over the past seven seasons.
Earlier this week, speculation linking the midfielder with a transfer to United gathered pace when the club’s photographer followed the midfielder on Twitter.
