Man United transfers: Seamus Coleman would be top signing, says ex-Red Devil
Manchester United legend Paul McGrath urges Louis van Gaal to sign Everton defender Seamus Coleman
Seamus Coleman would be a great signing for Louis van Gaal in the summer transfer window, according to Manchester United legend Paul McGrath.
Brazil international Rafael da Silva missed most of the 2014/15 campaign due to injury which forced United boss Van Gaal to deploy Phil Jones or Chris Smalling in an unorthodox right-back role.
He would be great for Manchester United and I really hope that is one of the deals that goes through
Coleman has blossomed into one of the Premier League’s most impressive full-backs over the past 24 months after having nine goals in 71 top-flight games.
And former Republic of Ireland international McGrath reckons Van Gaal could solve his right-back woes with the purchase of his compatriot Coleman from Everton.
“He has got every attribute a right-back wants. He works so hard, he is a good defender, and he has got an engine like no other,” McGrath told talkSPORT.
“I think he would be great for Manchester United and I really hope that is one of the deals that goes through.”
Coleman moved to Everton in £60,000 deal from Irish side Sligo Rovers in 2009 and the Toffees man has made 185 appearances for the Merseyside outfit.
United were reportedly linked with a move for Southampton defender Nathaniel Clyne but Liverpool look set to beat the 20-time English champions to the defender’s signature.
