Philippe Coutinho is backing Roberto Firmino to be a big success alongside him at Liverpool next season following his Brazil team-mate’s transfer to Anfield.
Firmino completed his move to Anfield from German club Hoffenheim last week in a £28m deal as Brendan Rodgers looks to guide the Reds back into the Champions League places next season.
The 23-year-old impressed last season, scoring seven goals and making 10 assists in 33 Bundesliga appearances for the German side.
And Coutinho, who is on international duty with Firmino at the Copa America, admits that he can’t wait to line up alongside his compatriot for his club next season.
Coutinho told Liverpool’s website: “I’m very much looking forward to playing and starting the new season alongside Firmino at Liverpool. I am looking forward to not only playing for Liverpool again, but trying to help us get into a position to win trophies.
“As I said, I am very happy he has signed for Liverpool – but not only him, all of the other signings we’ve made recently as well. I’m sure all of these new players are coming in to make our team even stronger for the new season.
“I can’t wait to start the Premier League season. I am very hopeful things will go well for us on the pitch this season.”
Firmino scored 47 goals in 151 appearances in league and cup for the German club following his move from Figueirense in December 2010.
He joins the 18-time English champions after a four-year stay at Bundesliga outfit Hoffenheim.
The deal for Firmino followed the signings of James Milner, Danny Ings, Adam Bogdan and Joe Gomez at Anfield.
